| Morciano di Leuca is located in the far corner of the Salento peninsula, about 7 Km from S. Maria di Leuca and 3 km from the Ionian Sea. Morciano di Leuca also belong to the village of Cape Barbarano and marina of Torre Vado, known tourist center characterized by low cliffs and a crystal clear sea. The town of Morciano di Leuca back around 1190 when the King of the Two Sicilies, Tancredi, assigned the various fiefdoms of the Salento to his subjects. After the death of Tancred, in 1194, took over the Swabians, until 1266, the Anjou and Aragonese until 1442 that lasted until 1618. Castle Morciano, now called Castello Valentino, is a magnificent and imposing example of civil architecture dating from the second half of the fourteenth century. |
