| A few miles from Gallipoli, in the inland of Salento, we find Alezio, a small town of south Salento, which lies on a major medium surrounded by countryside. The country is composed of a few thousand inhabitants, in fact, born only in 1854 by Ferdinand II, under the name Picciotti villa, this name is still used today to describe the inhabitants of Alezio called in Salento (picchuttari). The most important Church is the sanctuary of Santa Maria della Lizza, built in 1270, adorned by a beautiful arch in the Gothic style. |
